Prototype: German Federal Railroad, Class 81
Model: Märklin #3031
Equipped with a Telex coupler.
Notes: This lok was retrofitted by Jacques Vuye, aka Dr. Eisenbahn with a LokPilot decoder. The speed range has been governed to match the prototype. I tested the lok using the 5 depressed flat cars shown below. After a shaky start, it has proven itself to be a wonderful performer. The problems were not related to the lok itself, but rather the crappy condition of my track. After a little tweaking of the track connections, adjustments to the couplers of the consist and a thorough cleaning of the track the lok moved effortlessly and smoothly at the lowest throttle setting. It made the 4% grade smoothly at a setting of 5 out of a max. of 28. The deocoder requires a special setting on the IB of either DCC 28 or 128. I chose DCC 28 because I got tired of spinning the knob. :)
